When our faith is wavering, or when we feel defeated, sometimes we just need to hear God’s message. His message is everywhere: churches, retreats, television, books, magazines, movies, and radio. When we can submerse ourselves into a part of the world where we are with him and apart from our worldly concerns, we find a moment of peace and affirmation that our God is with us here and now. Maybe it is purely because of my youth, but I find that music is an excellent way to hear God’s promises when I’m in need. With the schedules we all keep these days, there is almost more free time spent driving from obligation to obligation than there is anytime else. This is still an opportunity to tune out the world and tune into something that will refresh your soul.
Mac Powell and Mark Lee were best friends with a common interest in music and God. When they decided to form their own band, they had no idea what it would become today. Starting in the early 90’s, these guys were just preforming for the fun of it. They had goals of course, but they were mostly local. God had a dream for them though, and it was far beyond what they could have ever imagined. Because they were using their talent to praise his name, he blessed them, and blessed them, and blessed them.
As one of the most popular Christian bands today, Third Day definitely understands that what they do is a very important part of God’s work. They use their musical talents to spread his word, love, and promises by giving us song by which we can praise him, thank him, and remember his love. Songs like cry out to Jesus and born again have such powerful meaning behind them, that I am sure it will touch your heart. They come from a real background of struggle and can now attest to God’s blessing and dream for their lives. Hearing their music, you can feel the same promises being spoken over you. God ALWAYS wants to bless us, but he needs us to turn away from negativity and embrace his promises. That is a difficult thing in this media fueled world, but positive influences are still all around you if you choose to see, hear, and accept them.
Taking the time to turn away from the messages of negativity, selfishness, and materialism that surround us each and every day is surely rewarding. Finding a band, a speaker, an artist, or a pastor that resonates with you is important in order to hear God’s messages. We have to choose to turn away from the influences in our lives that are negative, and fill that space with something good!
